Say whaaaat? That’s right, the slogan of Modesto: Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health. I went home last weekend just to make sure everything is still as I left it. It was, for the most part. Modesto is an interesting place…read on.

**Note: WordPress is having issues with double spacing underneath things. Sorry that this is a little hard to read.

First, there’s the whole Water, Wealth, Contentment, Health thing. WTF does that even mean? According to Wikipedia, a contest was run in 1911 to determine the slogan that would go on the arch. The original winner was: “Nobody’s got Modesto’s goat”. The second place entry was what they decided to put on the arch. Come on! How could you NOT put “Nobody’s got Modesto’s goat” on a huge red arch downtown? This is disappointing.

The arch actually made a celebrity appearance in the movie “Monsters vs. Aliens.” Awesome!

I did in Modesto what I usually do in SF, went to the farmer’s market. I love the Modesto farmer’s market because it is what I like to describe as “Modesto-y”

First, you have the dude selling jam. Nothing too out of the ordinary here except..wait- is that…a FLAME SHIRT? Awesome!

The Farmer’s Market is a great place to buy fresh flowers from a bored looking young man in a Cowboy’s jersey.

The last hilarious white trash thing I will say about the Modesto Farmer’s Markrt is that hanging above all the vendors are some patriotic flags: America (fuck yeah!), Greece (I guess there are a lot of Greek vendors) and….The Raiders. A true WTF moment.
Really though, I do love the Modesto FM. They had these amazing authentic cowboys playing music:
Tasty, cheap produce:
And Mr. Sciabica himself! Their olive oil is sold all over, and old Mr. Sciabica comes to the Farmer’s Market every week. He’s like 100. Love him!
Also, it is very close to my dad’s office. Convenient for him, because he can force me to take a picture in front of the building’s sign. The thumbs up was my idea.
After a rough day of goofing off at the Farmer’s Market, I headed to my mom’s house to relax. Well, not her house, because it’s getting remodeled and currently has no roof. She’s house sitting for our neighbor Pam, so we hung out there and ate delicious meatloaf.
Check out the scary masks in the backgound! :::shudder::: I hope they aren’t getting any ideas about how to decorate the new  house.
Also, I played with Oscar, the wonder dog. Well, I didn’t, but I took a pic of Steve making Oscar dance.
Ahh Modesto. A fun time was had by all! (especially by Oscar because he got to eat leftover meatloaf)

Last weekend I had the pleasure of gorging myself at the SF Food Wars cupcake challenge. My two BFFs from elementary school made a mean PB & J cupcake and took home the title of People’s Choice (honorable mention). Way to go, ladies.

Twin friends are the best kind of friends.

There were classy cupcakes…

And silly cupcakes…

And churro-y cupcakes…

People of all ages came out to enjoy:

Later on, I heard the mom telling her daughters "You've already had TEN cupcakes. That's enough!"

Eating 22 cupcakes is one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Despite the fact that I wanted to vomit (in a good way), a fun time was had by all!
